Avatar bags top honours at Golden Globe
James Cameron's magnums opus Avatar bagged two prestigious awards at the Golden Globe: Best Motion Picture, drama and Best Director.
Cameron beat competition from his ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker, Clint Eastwood's Invictus, Jason Reitman's Up In The Air and Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds to win his second Golden Globe as a director after Titanic in 1997.
Other top honours includes Sandra Bullock for Best Actress in the motion picture drama The Blind Side, Jeff Bridges (Best Actor award for a drama) for A Crazy Heart which also won the Best original song award.
Meryle Streep won the Best Actress award for a musical or comedy for Julie & Julia, while Robert Downey Jr. won the Best actor award for his performance in Sherlock Holmes in the same category.
