'Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu' Review

‘Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu’ is a Telugu remake of a successful Tamil film Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu. Tatineni Satya is making his directorial debut in Telugu movie to please all classes of audiences. Let’s find out how far director Tatineni Satya is successful.

Story:
Suri (Nani) is raised by his landlord in Bheemili village after his father passes away in childhood. He is accompanied by his group of Kabaddi friends, who has diverse backgrounds. Suri has interest in playing Kabaddi; however, he never gets any chance to play, and remains to be a volunteer.  His side - Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu is always criticized for not winning any tournament. Suri sees Saranya Mohan in his village and both fall in love and in the midst of all these, Nani eventually makes his way into the side. The plot unveils as to whether Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu can win any trophy or not? And whether Nani can win his love Saranya Mohan in the end?

Analysis:

In what could turn out to be a decent outing, Nani’s ‘Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu’ turns out to be an average entertainer, perhaps even below. And blame it on the director Tatineni Satya for the climax blunder. ‘Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu’ movie could be a time pass movie sans climax.

Bagging the remake rights does not mean that we need shoot exactly as it is in Tamil. Perhaps the thought process should have gone into customizing the film to suit the Telugu audience perception. But ‘Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu’ has not done that and, in the end, has killed the entire cadence.

‘Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu’ is a sporting movie that generates lot of interest in emotions. But it lacks the required drama and thread to make it interesting enough. There certainly an X factor missing in the film that separates a successful movie from the rest.  Director Tatineni Satya has managed to capture the rural behavior and body language of the artists, but he failed to make an interesting plot.

The movie has some good humor and emotions, but only in parts. The big minus for the film is that there are hardly many scenes where the hero and heroine romance. And that’s the key to a movie when the plot has a romantic element.

Multiplex is not where ‘Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu’ can be screened. May be the movie could touch the B and C class audiences, but again not too far down the line. The first of ‘Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu’ goes alright, and the second half of the movie picks up pace and goes well. But again loses its ground in the end.

Performances:

Nani has done very well and proved his natural acting talent. He perfectly fits the character having village background. His dialogue delivery and expressions are naturally flowing and he’s surely a good find

Saranya Mohan is absolute garbage in the film.  She hardly has one dialogue and the director has purely basked on her cure face value and expressions.  I wonder how did Saranya Mohan agree to act in this film after making a good debut in Sai Kiran Adivi’s ‘Village lo Vinayakudu’, where there’s lot of scope for her performance.

Rest of the casting is alright.

All things considered, ‘Bheemili Kabaddi Jattu’ is a movie where the thought is good – making a sport movie with emotions and drama taking centre stage, but the execution part has gone wrong.
